Contentment can be hard to find. Much of the time we search for contentment in things, achievements or relationships. With meditation practice, we relax with ourselves and appreciate simple human experiences. Difficult emotions and challenges of life can be met with gentleness, mindfulness and inquisitiveness.

Meditation experience is deepened through the cultivation of contentment and simplicity. We explore the foundational views of the hinayana Buddhist teachings and meditation in action for daily life. Through understanding the painful conditions and emotions that keep us trapped in habitual patterns, we can open to our inherent goodness and express the qualities of the Tiger: gentleness, appreciation, and steadiness.

Prerequisite: There is no prerequisite for this class, but it is recommended that you've recieved shamatha meditation instruction -OR- completed Shambhala Training Level I. This class is required to proceed to the next class Joy in Everyday Life.

This is the second course in our core study path, Way of Shambhala, which provides a strong foundation in mindfulness-awareness meditation. This series is designed to be applied to the complexity of our daily lives, and to develop courage and sanity in these troubled times of uncertainty. The entire series offers a structured path of meditation and an introduction to all that Shambhala offers. It also offers a glimpse of the Shambhala vision of enlightened society by emphasizing the ways in which meditation can impact our daily lives, and from there how the sanity of meditation can expand to impact our whole society.
