Shambhala Day - EVENING: Year of the Fire Bird
Shambhala Day marks the beginning of the new lunar year and is our biggest holiday of the year. On Shambhala Day we express our appreciation, not only for our teachers and teachings, but also for our connection to each other and the inherent worthiness and wisdom that binds us together. Come celebrate with us!
The other events leading into Shambhala Day are Mamo Chants, Vajrakilaya (for Vajrayana Practitioners) and Neutral Day on February 26th. These important practices to help usher in the New Year because we are clearing obstacles, making offerings and inviting the wakeful qualities of our minds and the world to be present. What a better way to do that than with each other?
Shambhala day lands on a Monday this year and we encourage those who are able, to participate in the entire day!
Year of the Fire Bird
The Bird is associated with dawn and awakening, so it is said that the Year of the Bird (Hen) values discipline and hard-work; never giving up and seeing each day as a fresh start. The Year of the Fire Bird highlights loyalty, commitment, and integrity. There can sometimes be a tendency for impulsiveness in the quick flames of the Fire Bird Year, but generosity, courage and strong principles calm the impetuous nature of this time. The Fire Hen is social, and reminds us that the power of community is the support and encouragement that we can offer each other.
